Home Lighting Planner.

Professional lumen targets, fixture counts, and circuit notes for every room in your home. Enter your rooms, get your plan, download a PDF to share with your contractor or take to a lighting showroom.

Why the planner

The problem

A whole house to light, and nowhere to keep the math.

Lighting a whole home is the same calculation run over and over: lumen targets, fixture counts, spacing, and the load on each circuit, room by room. It is not uncommon for that to live across browser tabs, a note on your phone, and whatever the electrician remembers you saying. By the third room, the house stops adding up.

How the planner fixes it

Every room, one plan, in an afternoon.

The Home Lighting Planner runs the math for the whole house and keeps it in one place. 30+ room types, all three layers, whole-home totals, an estimated electrical load, and a spec sheet your electrician builds from. The first room is free. The rest unlocks once, for $37.

  • Ambient, task, and accent targets calculated for each room.
  • Fixture counts, spacing, and whole-home totals that agree with each other.
  • A contractor-ready PDF you hand straight to your electrician.

How this plan is built

The numbers here start from published standards. Foot-candle levels and lumen targets follow the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) recommendations for residential spaces, then adjust for each room's size, natural light, and ceiling height. The layering, the fixture choices, and the circuit notes come from specifying lighting for real homes.

No calculator captures everything. How a room gets used, the reflectance of the finishes, the furniture that lands where the light was meant to go: a form cannot see any of it. Treat this as a considered starting point, and for the rooms that matter most, a trained eye in the actual room catches what a plan on paper cannot.

Lumen targets are estimates based on standard residential guidelines and the room parameters you've entered. They are a planning reference, not an electrical specification. Fixture performance, mounting height, surface reflectance, and personal preference all affect real-world results. Consult a licensed electrician for circuit design and load calculations. For complex projects, a lighting consultant or interior designer can translate these targets into a full specification.

Wattage estimates assume LED sources at 90 lumens per watt. These figures are planning targets for product selection and circuit sizing. They are not a substitute for an electrical engineering review or a formal load calculation by a licensed contractor.
